During the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a needle is used to make a small hole in the patient’s existing gum tissue.
Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to gently loosen the gum tissue, expand and slide the gumline to cover the exposed root structure.
Gum recession occurs when the tissue surrounding a tooth begins to wear away, which can expose the tooth and its root. Receding gums can create gaps between the gum and tooth leading to disease causing bacteria to build up. Left untreated, the tissue and bone structure surrounding the tooth begins to deteriorate resulting in tooth loss.
